Coming into Guffey from any direction is like stepping back in time. This tiny town situated at 8600 feet became a center of prospecting activity until it was discovered there was little gold in the Freshwater Mining District, resulting in a sharp decline in the town??s population. As mining moved out, Guffey settled into a premier cattle ranching area.
